Michael McEvilly is Director, Offshore, of the Ghana development (FPSO in 8,500’ w.d.), and previously Tubular Bells (SPAR in 4,400’ w.d.), for Hess Corporation.


Prior to joining Hess, McEvilly served as Senior Executive Vice President of Operations for Spitzer Industries, Inc. and Vice-President of Capital Projects for Helix Energy Solutions.  He worked at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation for nearly 22 years in a variety of positions including:  General Manager- Gulf of Mexico, Facilities and Construction Manager- Deepwater Worldwide, Senior Staff Engineer and Senior Engineer. This includes the Marco Polo Tension Leg Platform in 4,300’ w.d. and Independence Hub in 8,000’ w.d. He began his career at Cities Services Oil & Gas Corporation and has nearly 36 years of experience in the Offshore, Onshore and International Oil and Gas fields.


McEvilly has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s degree in Engineering Management both from Missouri University of Science and Technology (Formerly the University of Missouri- Rolla). He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas, a member of the Advisory Board of the Deep-water Offshore Technology Conference, a member of the Academy of Civil Engineers, a member of the Academy of Engineering Management (Vice-President), a Chapter Honor Member of Chi Epsilon, and Chairman of the Academy of Civil Engineers Vision 2020 Program. He serves as Vice President on the school’s Alumni Board of Directors and is Chairman of the Strengthen Campus Relations Committee.

3:30 PM Project Update - Deepwater Tano-Cape Three Points, Ghana

The Hess-operated Deepwater Tano Cape Three Points block project is a large ultra deep-water block, located offshore western Ghana. Since 2011, seven discoveries have been made on the block. Five of the discoveries are oil bearing - Pecan, Pecan North, Cob, Beech and Almond, while Hickory North and Paradise are predominantly gas bearing. This session will take a close look at Hess’ exploration in the block and the various opportunities and challenges operating there.
